WEEKLY

Awakening the Spirit Meets every Monday from 12 to 1:30 p.m.

We have the capacity to hate and the capacity to love. Which one we reach for is up to us.  – Edith Eger

Eger’s “mind-blowing memoir of surviving Auschwitz doesn’t begin with the terrifying night when she is 16 years old and armed soldiers herd her Hungarian family into a wagon full of Jews. Instead, we meet Dr. Eger in an El Paso therapy room in 1980, where she is treating a catatonic young man plagued by … well, she’s not sure what. Trauma, yes. But she has yet to discover its source. And when she does, it will bring her closer to her own” (New York Times).

Believe in YourSHELF Tween Book Group
6th-8th Graders — This One’s for You!

Meets on the third Sunday of the month at 10:15 a.m. – Facilitated by Molly Bohman, JPWL Assistant Librarian

For students in Grades 6-8: We meet (with snacks!)  in the Library.

Next meeting: Sunday May 18

Uprooted: A Memoir About What Happens When Your Family Moves Back by Ruth Chan. 1993: When Ruth’s parents decide to move back to Hong Kong from Toronto, she can’t help but focus on the negatives. Not only will she leave her school and friends behind, but she has unpleasant memories of Hong Kong, and she barely speaks Cantonese. A great story about how courage, perseverance, and time help ease big changes.

Questions? See Molly at the Book Mobile or in the JPW Library.
